The Athletic's Dianna Russini reports "the Rams' preference is to stay year-to-year on a prospective deal for Matthew Stafford."
It's not the most unreasonable request. Stafford is 37, and ranks 15th in EPA per play and 17th in success rate since 2023. While he can't play out the 2025 season on a contract that is set to pay just $4 million in guaranteed money, it's not surprising to hear the Rams prefer to only work out new money for the upcoming season rather than the next two years. That said, it wouldn't be surprising if this conundrum led to a split between the two sides, as it's been reported the Raiders and Giants could both be willing to give Stafford a two-year deal that would net him between $90-$100 million in guaranteed money. Stafford and the Rams are expected to meet on Friday to further discuss his future with the team. We could know more on this situation shortly.
